If you are drowning in debt it can be a complete nightmare and very stressful. You are probably juggling several creditors and robbing Peter to pay Paul. Your debt problem is also likely to be getting worse every month…not better.
More than likely you are also getting a lot of harassing phone calls at all times of the day (which means you don’t answer the phone anymore) and a daily post bag of threatening letters which can be incredibly intimidating.
If this sounds familiar then there are things you can do RIGHT NOW to start putting things right.
What you absolutely must not do is bury your head in the sand because this problem will not go away on its own…in fact it will just get a whole lot worse.
I suggest you take the follow steps today:
First of all, make a list of all your monthly outgoings like mortgage or rent, food, gas, electric etc. Make sure you include everything and be realistic otherwise you are going to get the wrong picture. Take this figure away from your monthly income after tax…this will give you your Disposable Income.
Once you have done this then add up all your debts…and don’t leave any out because they ‘don’t count’ or ‘are going to be sorted’ – Being honest with yourself is the first step to changing your situation for the better.
So once have your Disposable Income and your total debts worked out you can see where you are and start to do something about it.
The second thing you must do is stop using credit from one place to pay another debt. Once you are ready to make the decision to deal with your debt cut up all your cards.
Obviously, if you have been surviving on credit, once you cut them up you won’t have enough money to pay everything anymore. This is absolutely normal and a necessary step.
The third thing to do is look at all the available debt solutions for your situation. All the information you need is on the Wilmott Turner website by clicking on Personal Debt Solutions but if you would rather discuss it you can call on 0800 077 6180 or email advice@wilmott-turner.co.uk
Lastly, once you have identified the best solution for you DO IT! Don’t put it off.
When you have a serious debt problem it is normal to feel like you are the only person to be in that situation and this can lead to feeling embarrassed or ashamed….DON’T….you aren’t the first and you won’t be the last.
Thousands of people have found themselves in your position managed to get themselves straightened out by following these steps and getting help.
You can do the same so my advice is to start today. Good Luck!
