If you are struggling with debt that you cannot repay, one or more of your creditors may tell you that unless you pay what you owe or agree an arrangement to pay, they will take legal or court action against you.
But what does taking court action actually mean?
If a creditor decides to take legal or court action against you, it means that they have decided to apply to the Country Court to ask them to order you to repay your debt.
If such an order is granted by the court, it is known as a Country Court Judgement or CCJ.
A County Court Judgement
is simply a ruling from the local Court stating that you must repay a debt that you owe at a particular rate or within a particular time. The CCJ may state that you must pay the whole outstanding amount immediately or by monthly instalments.
To learn more about CCJs and what to do if you receive one, see the menu bar to the left of this page.
