How much will a Debt Relief Order cost?

Any initial advice that you receive from Beat My Debt either on the telephone, via e-mail or on our Debt forum is given without charge.

Beat My Debt is not able to help you apply for a debt relief order. Instead, we will advise you to speak to an authorised debt counsellor either at your local CAB office or by contacting the CCCS (consumer credit counselling service).

An authorised debt counsellor should charge around £90 to go through the debt relief order application process with you. This is far less than the fees you would be required to pay if you declared bankruptcy (see what will bankruptcy cost).

Creditor Arrears / Effect on credit rating

You should understand that when go into a debt relief order, you will stop making your normal monthly payments to your creditors. This means that your accounts will go into arrears or further into arrears. This will have a negative effect on your credit rating.
