The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has revealed it handled nearly 800,000 consumer enquiries last year and a record 127,471 new complaints.

The Office of Fair Trading has warned 10 firms to stop making unsolicited and misleading calls to advertise services. The six debt management and four cold-calling firms were told they could face formal action if they failed to stop.

On the 1st May 2009, the official 2009 Q1 insolvency figures were released by the Government’s Insolvency Service. The headline figure was that overall the total number of people declaring personal insolvency (bankruptcy or IVA) had increased by 19% over the same period in 2008.
